Experiential Summer Earnings

Academy students can also participate in Summer Experiential Earnings, an initiative that helps students find paid summer jobs with local businesses and nonprofits in areas that interest them.

The Edmundite Missions Academy believes that knowledge of careers and professions – an understanding not only that a bright and interesting future is possible, but that it is possible for you – is a powerful motivator for academic commitment.  But understanding and experiencing are two different things.  A job is not always exciting.  It is not always easy.  And it means you have to get up in the morning.

Experiencing holding a job is an important part of learning.

Therefore, the Missions Academy provides its students with Experiential Earnings opportunities.  In the summer, students who have been consistent participants in the programs over the academic year are given the chance to work for at least 40 hours in real jobs, in real organizations in Selma.  Students are encouraged to find their own jobs, but The Missions Academy also identifies and brings forward opportunities from local nonprofit and commercial employers.

The Missions Academy compensates the students at a per-hour rate when employers confirm hours worked, enabling them to begin saving.

The Experiential Earnings participation also provides students with added material for their resumes and college applications, as well as unique experiences that can become the subject matter for college application essays.

“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers as an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
